LEXINGTON, Ky. — After posting an impressive 6-1 victory over Xavier earlier in the day, the Kentucky men’s tennis team improved to 2-0 on the season taking down Morehead State 4-2 at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex on Saturday night.

Before the match, the Wildcats and Eagles agreed to play the singles portion of the dual match first. Doubles action would have been played if the two teams were tied after the six single matches.

Kentucky scored the first point in the match by getting the second outstanding performance of the day from freshman Anthony Rossi. Playing in the singles No. 4 position, the Frenchman posted a straight-set victory over Morehead sophomore Chris Shafik, 6-0, 6-0. In his first dual matches of his promising Kentucky career, Rossi played four sets in singles play, winning three of them by a convincing 6-0 score.

Sophomore sensation and No. 39 Alex Musialek grabbed the second point of the match for UK at the No. 2 singles position. The native of Dax, France, won the first set 6-1 and took the match when MSU senior Dusan Milovanovic was forced to retire after falling behind in the second set 2-1, due to injury. The singles point was the second of the day for Musialek who won at No. 2 against Xavier in straight sets.

With two matches decided and a critical four points still up for grabs, Kentucky veteran Brad Cox won the third point. The junior posted a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory at the No. 3 position against Eagle junior Bradley Bryan. Cox fell behind early, losing the first set but played terrific tennis in the final two sets to gather the Wildcats third point.

Morehead State would get on the board at the No. 1 singles position. Eagle redshirt senior Greg Anderson played an exciting match with UK senior Alex Lambropoulos. The match started with both players holding serve, but Anderson would make key plays down the stretch in each set to take the straight-set victory 6-2, 6-3.

UK would seal the doubleheader sweep when junior Alberto Gonzalez captured a 6-0, 6-0, straight-sets victory at the No. 6 position. Gonzalez was brilliant in the win over Eagle sophomore Nathan Blum. It was the second straight-set victory of the day for the Bradenton, Fla., native, who won at the No. 4 position against Xavier.

Morehead State gathered a meaningless point in the No. 5 singles position when Nathan Martin defeated UK sophomore Matt Davis 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

UK will face their first road test of the season when they travel to face No. 27 Virginia Tech on Wednesday. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m.
