BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Junior Tyler Reed has been named the Southeastern Conference’s Swimmer of the Week after his two individual victories at the Tennessee Invitational last week in Knoxville. Reed posted a victory in the 200-freestyle with the nation’s current fastest time of 1:35.26 in his first place tap.

Reed also scorched the field with a win in the 100-free with a time of 43.86. That mark is the third-best time in the country currently. Both the 100 and 200-free times rank as the fastest times in the SEC.

The junior from Morgantown, Ky., also tapped in second in the 500-free at the UT Invite where he posted a clip of 4:20.89. The 500-free time is a new career-best for the Wildcat and it pushes him to third on the UK all-time list in that event. All three of his individual times qualified as NCAA ‘B’ time standards.

Reed was also instrumental in two of Kentucky’s relays. Reed was the first leg of the winning 400-free relay team that set an NCAA ‘B’ mark with a time of 2:55.69. The junior then anchored the second-place 800-free relay team that also earned an NCAA ‘B’ mark with a clip of 6:33.60.

The honor of SEC Swimmer of the Week is the first of Reed’s career and second such honor for the Blue and White this season. Earlier this season senior Eric McGinnis was tabbed the conference’s top performer of the week.
