LEXINGTON, Ky. – Defensive tackle Corey Peters has been named Southeastern Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week for his performance in Kentucky’s win over Vanderbilt, the league office has announced.

Peters made five tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss, in the 24-13 victory over the Commodores that clinched bowl eligibility for the Wildcats.  Both of Peters’ TFLs helped lead to Vanderbilt punts.  The senior from Louisville also had a quarterback hurry that forced an incomplete pass. 

As a unit, the UK defense limited Vanderbilt to 209 yards total offense, the fewest yards against an SEC opponent since 1996.  In the second half, the Cats held the Commodores to no points, only one first down, 31 total yards and just 6:56 time of possession.

This is the second time during the 2009 season that Peters has been tabbed as the league’s Defensive Lineman of the Week.  He also was chosen for the South Carolina game.

McIntosh Named National Kickoff Specialist of the Week: Kentucky kickoff man Craig McIntosh has been named the National Kickoff Specialist of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards for his play in Kentucky’s 24-13 win over Vanderbilt.

The College Football Performance Awards are a scientific evaluation of game-day achievements.  McIntosh kicked off five times at Vanderbilt, with a career-high three touchbacks.  His other two kickoffs had outstanding placement, forcing the receiver to catch the ball near the sideline.  The great kickoff location helped the coverage unit contain the highly dangerous Warren Norman, who has returned three kickoffs for touchdowns this season.  Norman was limited to a 19-yard average on his two returns.  The average field position after Kentucky kickoffs was inside the 22-yard line.

McIntosh, from Lexington Christian Academy, is a redshirt freshman in his first season with the Wildcats.
