LEXINGTON, K y. — The University of Kentucky head women’s golf coach Myra Blackwelder announced the signing of Waynesboro, Penn., native Liz Breed to the 2010 freshmen class Thursday.

“I am happy to introduce Liz Breed as the newest member of the University of Kentucky women’s golf team,” head coach Myra Blackwelder said.  “Liz has had an outstanding junior career, and continues to improve her game with each season that passes. Her athleticism translates into length off the tee and she possesses the solid ball striking necessary to play at the Southeastern Conference level.  Liz is very goal oriented and is focused on elevating her game to the professional level. I am honored that she has placed her trust in our coaching staff to help her achieve her dreams.”

A senior at Waynesboro Area Senior High School, Breed has put together an impressive junior career. Breed registered four top-five finishes during summer 2009 play and recorded another top-10 finish.

With a 219 (70-76-73), Breed took top honors at the AJGA Junior Championship at The Virginian in July. Breed recorded a second-place finish at the Golf Pride Junior Classic in August with a 218 (73-73-72), and tied for third at both the SAP Junior Open (75-72-75) and Woodward Video Junior at The Greenbrier (74-73-78). In June, Breed posted a sixth-place finish at the Heritage Junior Championship with a 226 (76-77-73). Also competing in the McDonald’s Betsy Rawls Girls Championship in July, Breed shot a 246 (78-82-86). 

Breed also received invitations to the PING Invitational and Polo Golf Junior Classic, two tournaments considered the most prestigious in junior golf. At the PING Invitational, Breed recorded a 247 (81-86-80). The Polo Golf Junior Classic is set to take place Nov. 21-27.

“Liz is a true sports fan, and has embraced the idea and tradition of what it means to `Bleed Blue’. I believe that she is looking forward to the entire UK experience,” Blackwelder said.
