LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky swimming and diving teams are set to hit the pool for back-to-back meets this weekend in the Old Dominion state. UK will face Virginia Tech on Nov. 6 at 3 p.m. ET. Kentucky will then have a short turnaround as the team travels to the University of Virginia on Saturday morning for a 10 a.m. ET start.
Kentucky is coming off a pair of losses to SEC rival Tennessee a week ago; however, the UK teams scored a number of exceptional individual performances.
For the second straight meet junior Lisa Faulkner swept the diving events for the Wildcats against UT. Faulkner was the only UK athlete to record two individual victories against the Volunteers. Her score on the three-meter (303.45) is a season-high score and currently is the fourth-best score in the SEC this season.
Senior Warren Grobbelaar won the 100-fly in UK’s loss to Tennessee. It was the third win in the event this season for the senior who redshirted a season ago after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. Grobbelaar’s time (49.03) in the event this weekend is the fourth fastest time in the SEC this season — and the fastest of the year for Grobbelaar.
Freshman Trina Winsor earned her first-ever collegiate victory when she tapped first in the 500-free against Tennessee. The time is a career-best and ranks among the top-20 in the SEC this season. Winsor also placed second in the 1000-free.
The duo of seniors Alex Forbes and Eric McGinnis continue to be a dominant force for the Blue and White in the sprint freestyle races. McGinnis currently holds the fastest time in the 50-free this season in the league with a 20.20 clip. Forbes has the fifth fastest clip. The duo also ranks in the top-10 in the 100-free in the SEC times tallied thus far in the season. In all three meets the tandem has earned the top two finishes in both events.
