LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team took second place at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup on Tuesday with an 898 (303-290-305). The event was held at the Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky.
“I am pleased by the balance our team is beginning to show,” head coach Myra Blackwelder said. “We had low rounds from a variety of players and that helped improve our standing.”
Junior Louise Ljungstedt was Kentucky’s top finisher with a ninth-place 223 (77-68-78). After her second-round 68, Ljungstedt stood tied for fourth.
“Louise Ljungstedt played a very solid tournament and earned the first top-10 finish of career,” Blackwelder said.
Also finishing in the top 20 were senior Kristin Vincent and freshman Betsie Johnson. With an even-par 72 in the second round, Vincent placed tied for 11th (75-72-77). Johnson registered a 1-over-par 73 in the final round and finished the event tied for 18th (75-78-73).
Freshmen Heather Lott and Ashleigh Albrecht rounded out Kentucky’s starting five. Lott posted a 232 (80-72-80) and Albrecht finished with a 234 (76-81-77).
Three Wildcat individuals also competed in the tournament. Hurwitch, Kentucky’s top individual recorded a 225 (71-77-77) to finish tied for 15th. Sophomore Laura McGehee registered a 232 (76-75-81) and redshirt freshman Megan Moir posted a 240 (81-77-82) in her collegiate debut.
Louisville won the event with a 2-over-par 866 (289-286-291).
Next, Kentucky is set the host Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational Sept. 25-27. Play begins at 8:30 a.m. EDT with 18 holes scheduled each day.
