Hey Wildcat Fans!

After a long weekend of playing in our first tournament of the fall season, we are all pleased with the weekend results and are excited to continue with practices and training before our next tournament which is in three weekends, held here at UK.

We left for Nashville, Tenn., Thursday evening, as first matches started Friday at 9 a.m. The van ride was fun and it made us think back to all the memories and stories we created last season!

Friday was the longest day as we played two doubles matches in the morning followed by one singles match after a lunch break. Friday was also the toughest day of competition for us all, as it was our first matches back from playing in the NCAA tournament this past May.

Saturday was a much better day for everyone. We played one doubles match in the morning followed by a singles match that afternoon. After Saturday’s matches we went out for a team dinner at a very nice restaurant and then came back to the hotel to conclude the night with a team meeting. This team meeting started out like none other though…we had the U.S. Open on TV while we waiting for all the players and coaches to arrive to the specific room, when all of a sudden our TV made a weird noise and went pitch black. Not knowing what had happened, someone looked at the TV and yelled, “The TV is smoking!” Laughing, we thought nothing too serious, until a horrible odor started overtaking the entire room. At this time, we called down to the hotel lobby to notify them that our tv was not only smoking but it was also “emitting a powerful gas” (Shosho). We were told that there was no maintenance on duty, but that a security officer would be sent up to make sure everything was ok. Everything ended up being alright and nothing was harmed, we just had to switch rooms for the team meeting!

Finally, Sunday rolled around and everyone was very tired and sore. We only had to play one singles match at 10 a.m. Despite being tired and worn down from the previous days, everyone came out with a victory! With everyone happy with the wins, the van ride home was lots of fun!

We now have a few weeks off to prepare for the UK Fall Invitational, which will be held at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center on Oct. 9 through Oct. 11. The next few weekends we will be hosting recruits and showing them what UK and being a Wildcat is all about!
