ZIONSVILLE, Ind. — Finishing the second round of play late in the evening, Kentucky junior golfer Brian Belden posts a 36-hole total of 6-over-par as UK sits in 15th place at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate at Wolf Run Golf Club Saturday.
Belden, who was the Wildcats top qualifier for the tournament, posted a 73 in the second round to improve 11 spots on the leaderboard with a 148 total score. The native of Emmaus, Pa., shot a 75 in the first round and was in 39th place.
Junior James Kania sits in a tie for 39th after 36 holes, posting an 8-over-par 150 in the first two rounds. James Kania is followed by seniors Jordan Blann, Derek Oldham and Ben Fuqua. Blann sits in a tie for 61st after posting a 153, while Oldham finished tied for 82nd with a 161 and Fuqua tied for 84th with a 162.
Kentucky’s two freshmen on the trip, Michael Kania and Chase Parker, finished their first day of collegiate action with good numbers. Michael Kania duplicated the performance of his older brother, James, finishing the first two rounds tied for 39th place. Kania followed his 5-over-par 76 in the first round with a 3-over-par 74 in the second round.
Parker finished one stroke behind the Kania brothers at 151. The native of Augusta, Ga., improved his score in the second round finishing the second 18 holes at 2-over-par. The freshman scored a 5-over-par on the first 18 holes and heads into the third and final round in a tie for 48th.
No. 12 Illinois leads the tournament after finishing the first two rounds with a total score of 563, 11 strokes better than second place North Florida. Central Florida sits in third place, followed by three schools tied for fourth, Penn State, Tulsa and Iowa State. Co-host Indiana is tied for seventh place.
Illinois junior Scott Langley is leading the 54-hole tournament with a score of 134 heading into the final round. Langley is trailed by North Florida sophomore Sean Dale, who finished the first two rounds at 135.
Kentucky heads into the third and final round of play with a total score of 609. The final 18 holes will begin at 8:30 am ET, with players teeing off on both the first or 10th tee.
