UK women’s soccer coach Jon Lipsitz earned his first win as Kentucky’s new head coach last week, and now he’s looking for his next milestone victory, a win over in-state rival Louisville as the Cats host the Cards Saturday at the UK Soccer Complex.

The Wildcats (1-0-0) come into the game off a 2-1 come-from-behind season opening win over Cincinnati. After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, the Wildcats rallied for two second half goals for the win. Samantha Au tied the game with her first collegiate goal in the 48th minute and Jenna Goblirsch scored the game winner nearly nine minutes later on a 25-yard blast from the right of the goal.

Kentucky leads the all-time series with Louisville 5-1-1. However the Wildcats are winless against the Cardinals since the 1996 season. After meeting for five straight seasons in the 90s, the teams took a nine year hiatus from the series before renewing it in 2006. The Cats lost that match 2-1 in overtime and both teams played to a 0-0 tie in 2007.

“We are excited to play another match in front of our fantastic fans here at UK,” said Lipsitz. “Louisville is talented and very well coached. It will be a great challenge for the team.”

The Cardinals (1-0-0) enter the game of a 1-0 win in their season opener against Miami (Ohio). Freshman Taylor Vancil picked up the shutout for the Cardinals in her first collegiate appearance.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex. All fans receive admission for $1 and the first 50 fans receive a free UK women’s soccer drawstring bag. In addition the first 50 students receive free hot dog.
