LEXINGTON, Ky. – Five representatives from the Kentucky track and field competed last weekend at the 2009 United States Track and Field Championships held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Returning Kentucky seniors Kristin Smith and Ashley Muffet took part in the women’s hammer throw and discus competitions, respectively. Meanwhile three UK departed seniors Chase Madison (men’s discus); Rashaud Scott (men’s discus) and Ashley Trimble (women’s heptathlon) encountered the nation’s best out west.
On his third attempt, Madison threw the discus 196-1 feet from the ring to qualify for the event final where he placed seventh overall. Scott finished 13th overall after throwing a distance of 190-9.
On the women’s side Muffet posted a mark of 173-10 on her third attempt to take home 14th in the women’s discus competition.
Smith placed 12th overall in the hammer, recording a measurement of 202-10 on her second attempt.
After two days of competition in the heptathlon, Trimble finished in the 14th slot. She continued her string of impressive finishes in the 800m run to conclude the event. Trimble placed second in the two-lap race with a time of 2:15.28.
