COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The University of Kentucky’s doubles team made their last run in the NCAA Double Tournament Friday afternoon as they fell in the Round of 16 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. Senior Carolina Escamilla and freshman Caroline Lilley were undone by Northwestern’s Georgia Rose and Lauren Lui, 6-3, 6-1.

“We played a very skilled Northwestern team,” head coach Carlos Drada said. “We had a few leads early during the match but were not able to capitalize on them.”

Kentucky managed to play strong, winning several games and jumping ahead in the beginning but Rose and Lui stood their ground and came out on top. Escamilla and Lilley grabbed three games in the first set, chasing their opposition, but ultimately fell 6-3, 6-1. The Cats had played the NU pair just a few weeks earlier in the NCAA Second Round of team competition and dropped the match 8-4.

During their tournament run Escamilla and Lilley disarmed the No. 3 seed on the first day of competition in three sets to advance in the tournament.

The Wildcat duo ends the season as UK’s top doubles team and with a 10-11 record.
