LEXINGTON, KY – It was a banner day for the Lexington soccer community on Sunday as the University of Kentucky men’s and women’s soccer programs held a free soccer clinic, attracting 150 children.
In a laid-back, festive atmosphere that included soccer tricks, games and inflatables, both soccer programs put participants, which included 350 total people, through various shooting stations and agility drills.
“What a great day for everyone involved,” said UK men’s coach Ian Collins. “The interaction between our men’s and women’s players and the kids was awesome. We feel strongly that it is an important part of our mission to help promote soccer within our community, and to see all of the smiling faces was great.”
“It was great to see so many boys and girls from the Lexington community come out and share a beautiful day on the soccer field with us,” said UK women’s coach Jon Lipsitz. “We want to jump at every chance to give back to the community and honor our responsibilities as representatives of the University.”
Both programs look to repeat the clinics in the fall and again next spring.
