CINCINNATI — The Kentucky men’s soccer team wrapped up its spring season Saturday with a resounding 6-0 win over Xavier, in The Blue Chip Showcase, held on the campus of the University of Cincinnati.

Kentucky as led by solid performances from goalkeeper Dan Williams, Taylor White, C.J. Tappel, Tim Crone and Chad Hagerty, including a two-goal game from White.

UK Goalkeeper Dan Williams was called into action in the first minute and made a good save after a UK defender lost his footing. That Xavier threat was the only nervous moment for the UK defense which was able to shut down Xavier very effectively. White opened the scoring after 10 minutes with a powerful header off a Tappel corner and then three minutes later the Lexington, Ky., native, Tappel, added a second goal after cutting in from the wing and drilling home a left-foot shot from 18-yards out.

UK was in complete control throughout the game and after 30 minutes, Tim Crone and Chad Hagerty worked together in a service being slotted home from five yards out by George Davis IV.

A great piece of individual play by Davis in the 36th minute resulted in him being dragged down in the penalty area and Jason Griffiths dispatched the resulting penalty kick in the corner of the net for a UK 4-0 lead. The teams went in at halftime with UK leading 4-0.

As the second half begun, it was apparent UK was hungry for more goals and after numerous near misses, UK added a fifth goal in the 52nd minute as Tappel and White got together again and White tucked away his second goal on the game and UK’s fifth goal. Hagerty saw a great shot stopped by the Xavier keeper in the 68th minute and White went close again for UK off a header before Josh McRary, a transfer from Radford, added a sixth goal in the 73rd minute.
