LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky track and field multi-event specialist Ashley Trimble was named Southeastern Conference Female Field Athlete of the Week after the senior’s record-setting performance at the Sea Ray Relays last weekend, the league office in Birmingham, Ala., announced Tuesday.

The weekly award is the second career conference weekly honor for Trimble. It marks the fourth conference weekly honor of 2009 for the Wildcats. Two weeks ago, Trimble was named the SEC Female Runner of the Week after her season-opening hurdles performance at Arizona State.

Last week at the Sea Ray Relays hosted by the University of Tennessee, Trimble continued her outstanding senior campaign by breaking the UK women’s heptathlon varsity record.

Trimble accumulated 5,438 points and beat out eight competitors to claim first place in the two-day event to enter her name into the UK annals. She won the Sea Ray Relays championship by 247 points over her closest competitor, earning an NCAA provisional mark. Trimble finished first in five of the seven events with titles in the 100m hurdles, shot put, 200m dash, javelin and 800m dash. She also placed second in the long jump. Her point total tops the SEC.

The Columbus, Ohio, native now owns both UK multi-event records with the outdoor heptathlon and indoor pentathlon standards. Last month at the NCAA Indoor Championships, Trimble set the pentathlon varsity record with an All-America performance.

Trimble was also a member of Kentucky’s fifth-place women’s 4x400m relay team that recorded a season-best time of 3:42.38 over the weekend.

After a week off from competition, Kentucky will send split squads to the Penn Relays and the UCSD Triton Invitational.
