ATHENS, Ga – After two days of stormy weather, the University of Kentucky women’s golf team tied for ninth place with a 308 in the first and final round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, on March 29 at the University of Kentucky Golf Course.
“The conditions today were very difficult,” head coach Myra Blackwelder said. “We had gusty winds, cold temperatures, a rain soaked golf course and tough pins. The team recorded another top-10, although we were a bit disappointed in how we finished as the conditions deteriorated further in the last hour of play. It was a very long week that was a test of patience made difficult by our inability to play pr practice since Thursday.”
No. 44 Kentucky shared ninth place with No. 5 Oklahoma State and No. 38 Ole Miss. The Wildcats outplayed three top-20 ranked teams: No. 12 Wake Forest, No. 19 Arkansas and No. 14 Michigan State.
Senior Mallory Blackwelder and freshman Alyssa Randolph led Kentucky carding a four-over-par 76 – good for a 19th-place tie. Junior Sara Hurwitch and freshman Ashlee Rose tied for 39th with a 78 (+6). Junior Erica Still rounded out the day shooting an 81.
The Wildcats make their next appearance at the Lady Mocs Intercollegiate in Lookout Mountain, Ga., March 6-7 for before they travel to Columbia, S.C., for the Southeastern Conference Tournament on March 17-19.
