BATON ROUGE, La. – Freshmen Ashlee Rose led the University of Kentucky women’s golf team with a career-best 70 – good for a fifth-place tie – after the first round of the LSU Golf Classic, on Friday at the University Club at Baton Rouge.
“The freshman class led the team today with a stellar performance,” head coach Myra Blackwelder said. “Ashlee Rose holed her second shot from the fairway for an eagle to shoot 70. Alyssa Randolph shot a 72 with four birdies.”
Randolph matched her career best with an even-par 72. The Knoxville, Tenn., native tied for 15th place – her best first round finish of her Kentucky career.
Continuing her consistent performance from the Kiawah Island Classic, junior Sara Hurwitch shot a two-over-par 74 – good for a 39th-place tie. Kristin Vincent and Mallory Blackwelder weren’t far behind carding 77 and 78 respectively.
No. 46 Kentucky tied for ninth place as the team carded its lowest round of the season with a 293. The Wildcats outplayed three of the five Southeastern Conference foes on the field including No. 37 Mississippi, No. 26 Arkansas and Mississippi State.
“The team will practice a bit this afternoon before going to support the baseball team tonight in their game against LSU,” Myra Blackwelder said.
Tee times begin at 8 a.m. CDT off No. 1 and No. 10 tees on Saturday. On Sunday, there will be a shotgun start at approximately 8:30 a.m. CDT. Live scoring is available on www.golfstat.com.
