LEXINGTON, Ky. — Due to the threat of inclement weather in the central Kentucky area, the Kentucky baseball doubleheader with Western Michigan, scheduled for noon ET at Cliff Hagan Stadium, has been cancelled.
The Wildcats won game one of the series Friday evening, 16-5, behind a career-best 11 strikeouts from James Paxton and homers from Andy Burns, Troy Frazier and Marcus Nidiffer. Frazier’s no-doubt blast, off the batters eye in center field, marked his first career grand slam. Burns and Frazier each led UK with four RBI, while Nidiffer chipped in three. Paxton worked six dominating innings, allowing one run, while striking out 11 – the most at UK since Craig Snipp struck out 11 in a complete-game win at Georgia on May 19, 2006, clinching UK’s first Southeastern Conference Championship in the process.
UK will resume the series on Sunday, facing the Broncos at 1 p.m. ET at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
