LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior Jodie Meeks was named the SEC Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.

The 6-4 Norcross, Ga., native helped lead Kentucky to a 2-0 record on the week with wins against Florida (68-65) and Arkansas (79-63). Meeks scored 10 of Kentucky’s last 12 points, including a game-winning three-pointer with 4.7 seconds left, to defeat the Gators. He finished with a team high 23 points. He followed that effort with 45 points at Arkansas, a new Bud Walton Arena record. He was 17-of-24 from the field, including 7-for-12 from the three-point line. Meeks also became the 56th member of UK’s prestigious 1,000 point club.

Meeks currently ranks fourth nationally in scoring, averaging 25.8 ppg, and seventh in the nation in three-point field goals made (94). Meeks is also doing it from the line, shooting an SEC best 88.6 percent from the charity stripe.

The award is his fourth of the season and the seventh weekly league honor of his career. Meeks is tied with former Vanderbilt Commodore Shan Foster for the most weekly league honors in a season with four.

Including this week, the Wildcats have received six weekly honors this season with Meeks being a recipient four times. Sophomore Patrick Patterson has been honored once and DeAndre Liggins was named the SEC Freshman of the Week earlier this year. Kentucky’s five SEC Player of the Week honors is the most by one school in a season in league history.
