LEXINGTON, Ky. –
Junior setter Sarah Rumely was named to the Collegiate Volleyball Update’s (CVU.com) list of Stellar Spikers for the 2008 season it was announced.
Rumely was named to the honorable mention list of the Stellar Spikers throughout the country. Previously, Rumely was tabbed a second-team All-America member by the Under Armour/Volleyball Magazine and an AVCA All-America honorable mention.
She becomes the second Wildcat honored by CVU.com this season. Freshman Becky Pavan was named a “Rising Star” by the site late last month.
In honoring the 88 student athletes from across the nation, CVU.com looked for players that exhibited excellence and balance. While NCAA statistical rankings were considered, they weren’t the only consideration. Also considered in forming the two teams of 14 and in choosing the 60 Honorable Mention selections was the impact the player had on helping her team succeed as well as conference awards.
The 2008 SEC Player of the Year was simply sensational in helping guide UK to the national polls, a second-place finish in the SEC and drawing record crowds at Memorial Coliseum.
Statistically, she is just the third player in school history to chart over 4,000 assists and is also among the leaders on the career service aces list with 139. Rumely was in on every point in UK’s season, as she helped guide a balanced UK attack that ranked third in league play and first overall in hitting percentage. For the season she notched 12 matches with 40 or more assists and recorded nine double-double efforts. She set a career-high with over 100 blocks while positing her third straight season of 1,000 or more assists.
