LEXINGTON, Ky. –
Fresh off a dominating performance last weekend against Alabama the Kentucky swimming and diving teams host Louisville Saturday at the Lancaster Aquatic Center for their last home meet of the season. Prior to the two teams entering the water, UK will say goodbye to nine seniors in Senior Day festivities.
In addition to Senior Day, the meet with the Cardinals is the annual “Pack the Pool.” Several promotions will run throughout the meet for fans’ chances to win t-shirts, water bottles and free food.
Last time out the Wildcats took control early and put together an impressive performance in the dual meet with the Crimson Tide. Both the men’s and women’s 200-medley relay teams put together wins to open the meet and take early leads neither team would relinquish. The men’s team touched the wall in the medley relay almost two seconds before Alabama while the women’s team finished over a second better.
A week ago senior Leah Harms posted the first double-win victory of her career when she captured first place in both the 1650 and 500-free events. The Wildcats continued to dominate in the sprint events as well as Lindsey Graessle, Megan Pulskamp, Jenna Newsome and Kelsi Hall all notched wins for the Blue and White.
On the men’s side senior Shane Eliason and junior Alex Forbes paced the squad to a dominating victory over an SEC foe. Eliason scored three individuals wins on the day, while Forbes was the first to touch the wall in both sprint free events to lead a 1-2-3 finish by the Cats.
Saturday will mark the final time Harms, Eliason, James Batley, Matt Bierwirth, Haleigh Kerns, Kelly Rames, Joe Retrum, Kristina Sledge and Justin Smith will compete at the Lancaster Aquatic Center.
Under head coach Gary Conelly the men’s squad has won all 14 meetings with the Cardinals in his tenure, while the women have strung 15 consecutive victories over their in-state rivals.
