LEXINGTON, Ky. – Four members of the University of Kentucky volleyball team were selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV team. Juniors Sarah Rumely and BriAnne Sauer were tabbed to the first team, while sophomores Lauren Rapp and Laura Stokowski were named to the second team.
This is the second consecutive season that Rumely and Sauer were named to the All-District team. As sophomores, both were selected to the second team.
Rumely and Sauer will advance to the national ballot for the Academic All-America team, which will be announced in December. To be nominated for the Academic All-America process, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30, be a sophomore or higher in academic and athletic standing, and be a starter or key reserve. The Academic All-District IV team is comprised of players from the states of Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama.
Rumely (New Palestine, Ind.) has started all 25 matches and has seen every point of Kentucky’s 22-3 season thus far. Rapp (Indianapolis, Ind.) set a career-high with 21 kills in a five-set UK victory over Ole Miss in late October. She is the lone Wildcat to post 20 kills in a match this season. The sophomore has started all 25 matches for the Blue and White this season as a right-side hitter. She is second on the team averaging 2.90 kills per frame while also contributing 0.97 blocks per set. Rapp is an elementary education major with a grade point average of 3.80.
Stokowski (Aurora, Ill.) has seen action in all 25 of UK’s matches as a defensive specialist. She notched career-bests of 14 digs and two aces in the five-set win over Ole Miss earlier this season. Stokowski posts a career-high 1.85 digs per set this season and has 159 scoops on the year. She has been outstanding in conference action averaging 1.98 digs a frame. Her major is accounting and she holds a 3.62 grade point average.
