LEXINGTON, Ky. — After posting a match-high 1168 in a win over Morehead State – with team-leading numbers in both guns, freshman Ethan Settlemires – has been selected the Kentucky rifle Shooter of the Week, head coach Harry Mullins announced.

Settlemires, a native of Kossuth, Miss., posted a team-high 580 in smallbore, with a club-best 198 in prone, to complement his match-best 588 in air rifle. Settlemires, part of a star-studded, two-member freshmen class that includes Megan English, has graced the starting lineup multiple times early in the season, including his first collegiate match, a UK win over Ohio State.

“We are all really proud of Ethan, he is solidifying himself as one of the top freshmen in the nation,” Mullins said. “He had the highest overall combined total this weekend and the highest smallbore score out of both matches. I was really proud of him to do that considering that we had two smallbore All-Americans on his smallbore relay and for him to win the match makes it all the more impressive. He had the highest smallbore score of the entire day with a 580. Ethan has been working hard coming in as a freshman and shooting the way he has is a good sign for the future of the team.”

Kentucky returns to action on Saturday, facing Army and Memphis in a tri-match at UK’s Barker Hall.
