TULSA, Okla., and LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s tennis team split its squad between fall tournaments this weekend, continuing play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships main draw, hosted by the University of Tulsa, and the University of Louisville’s Fall Invitational.
The 15th-ranked Wildcat duo of senior Bruno Agostinelli and sophomore Brad Cox continued play in the doubles round of 16 in the main draw of the ITA Championships but the Kentucky duo fell to Ohio State’s Steven Moneke and Balazs Novak, 8-5. Earlier this fall after the Wildcats won the Southern Intercollegiate Doubles Championship.
At the Louisville Fall Invitational, three Wildcats were in action Friday.
UK freshman Patrick Bandy defeated Filip Miljevic of Illinois State 7-5, 6-4 in the first round. Later in the day, Bandy battled Doug Matthews of Xavier but fell 6-2, 6-4 to the Musketeer.
But in doubles play, Bandy teamed up with sophomore Will Beck to defeat Matthews and partner Chris Herlinger of Xavier 8-6 in a first-round contest. Bandy and Beck will take on a team from Illinois State in the second round on Saturday.
In singles, Beck fell in a tight three-set match against Damian Cordesse of Lander 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. Beck is scheduled to face Eastern Kentucky’s Alex Das Izquierdo in a consolation match on Sunday.
Playing in his hometown, senior Shane Collins was the third Wildcat in action. Collins battled DePaul’s Vanja Grgec in first-round play but fell to the Blue Demon 6-4, 6-2. Collins serves against Jason Wolfson of Morehead State on Saturday in a consolation match.
