LEXINGTON, Ky. –
The Kentucky volleyball team is ranked 25th in the latest poll comprised by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, it was announced Monday. The top-25 ranking is the first for UK volleyball since concluding the season ranked 12th in the country in 1993.
“The ranking is nice for our players to receive recognition for their hard work and the success our program has enjoyed so far this season,” said Head Coach Craig Skinner.
Kentucky (15-2, 6-0) is in the midst of a 12-match winning streak, the longest since a 17-match streak in that same 1993 season. UK is also off to a tremendous start in Southeastern Conference action rattling off six straight wins. This is the best start to a league season since going 7-0 in 1988. The Wildcats are just two wins shy of securing their fourth consecutive 17-win season.
During the team’s 12-match winning streak, UK has won eight of those matches in three sets. No match has gone to five sets.
In the last three seasons, Kentucky holds a 34-6 record at home in Memorial Coliseum. They’ve been equally impressive this season on the road, as their only loss away from home came on a neutral court.
Kentucky will hit the road for the first time as a ranked team when they travel to take on No. 9 Florida, Friday night. First serve is slated for a 7 p.m. start between the last two undefeated teams in the SEC play.
