Ben Fuqua Named SEC Male Golfer of The Month

Following two top-10 performances, including winning the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate, Kentucky senior Ben Fuqua (Danville, Ky.) has been named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Month, the league office announced Friday afternoon.

“It is great to see Ben Fuqua honored by the SEC after his impressive month of play,” Coach Brian Craig said. “Ben has been working diligently on his game and is very deserving of this recognition. Our entire team congratulate him on being named SEC Player of the month.”

In two tournaments this fall season senior Ben Fuqua has played six rounds with a 70.0 stroke average after finishing, tied for ninth at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate, held Sept.13-14, and winning the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate, held Sept. 26-28, in Zionsville, Ind..

At the Mason Rudolph Fuqua beat the field by seven strokes finishing with a final score of 15-under-par. Fuqua set a new school record with the three lowest rounds ever shot by a Wildcat in one tournament. He also set a new career record after shooting a 65 in the final two rounds at the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate. In three rounds at the Mason Rudolph Fuqua carded 20 birdies.

Fuqua led the 43rd ranked Kentucky to a second-place finish in the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate. Other Southeastern Conference schools in the tournament included South Carolina, Mississippi State and tournament-host Vanderbilt. Fuqua out shot every player from each respective SEC school.

He is ranked 14th in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.

Kentucky returns to the course October 13-14 for The Prestige at PGA West in LaQuinta, Calif.
