TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis squad concluded the 22nd Annual Roberta Alison Classic with two championship wins. Lauren Meier and Caroline Lilley each won the championship match of their respective draws.

 

Meier took to the court opposite Alabama’s Alice Tunaru Sunday morning in the gold draw singles championship. The Wildcat allowed only three opponent points, overpowering the Tide for a, 6-1, 6-2, championship victory.

 

The Blue and White’s Lilley served against Tulane’s Caroline Gerber during the green draw singles final matches. The Portland, Ore., native knocked out the Green Wave, 6-4, 6-0. Lilley outscored her opponents by a 26-game margin (36-10). The Kentucky newcomer also shut out the competition in two sets during her three-match tournament run.

 

In the back draw finals, freshman Jennifer Stone suffered defeat by Andrie Meiring of Samford, 6-2, 6-4.

 

During Saturday’s doubles finals, Lilley and Stone defeated Alabama’s Meritt Emery and Bianca Svensson, 8-6, in the back draw. Kentucky’s freshmen duo won two of their three matches during the weekend tournament. Meier paired with Tennessee Tech’s Corkern for the front draw consolation round. The doubles tandem outscored Memphis State’s Wiseman and Brown, 8-3.

 

A total of 11 teams took part in the tournament, featuring players from Alabama, Auburn-Montgomery, Georgia State, Kentucky, Memphis, Mississippi State, Murray State, Samford, Tennessee Tech, Tulane and UNC Charlotte.

 

Four members of the Kentucky squad continue tournament action in Pacific Palisades, Calif., at the ITA All-American Championship.
