HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. – Sophomore Louise Ljungstedt’s personal tournament-low 75 led the University of Kentucky women’s golf team to a sixth-place finish in the final round of the Ron Moore Intercollegiate, on Wednesday at the Highlands Ranch Golf Club.
“Today’s performance was highlighted by Louise Ljungstedt’s eagle on No. 6, a 260 yard uphill par-four,” head coach Myra Blackwelder said. “She holed out from 55 yards, which helped her come back and anchor the team today.”
No. 67 Kentucky finished sixth in the three-day tournament which put them ahead of three top-50 ranked teams. With a combined score of 913 (302-301-310), the Wildcats fell only five strokes away from the fifth-place team, Arkansas- Little Rock.
Senior Mallory Blackwelder carded a team-best of 225 (75-74-76), tying her for 17th. She led the team with nine birdies and finished nine-over-par.
Juniors Erica Still (75-74-81) and Kristin Vincent (73-75-82) tied for 27th with a 230 and freshman Ashlee Rose concluded play tied for 45th carding 235 (79-78-78) in her first collegiate tournament. Ljungstedt finished with a 242, which placed her at 62nd, tying with junior Wildcat Sara Hurwitch who competed as an individual.
“Overall, we had many bright spots the last three days, but it is imperative that they sharpen their short games in order to climb the rankings,” Blackwelder said. “The depth and strength in Division I college golf all across the country is significant. Our team is just a few decisions away from competing at a higher level.”
The Wildcats return to action on October 3-5, traveling to Chapel Hill, N.C.
