BEIJING— Rising junior Kentucky swimmer Elvis Burrows made his Olympic debut for the Bahamas in the 50-free finishing seventh in his heat with a time of 23.19.Burrows, swimming from the second lane, tapped the wall and finished among a crowded heat. The top seven swimmers were all within .92 seconds of each other.
Kentucky has five athletes among the competitors in Beijing. Burrows joins track and field’s Jose Acevado and Mikel Thomas as UK’s current athletes in the Games this summer.
Burrows becomes the second consecutive athlete from the UK swimming team to suit up for the Bahamas at the Olympics. Former swimmer Nikia Deveaux swam the 50-free in the 2004 Games in Sydney.
He will rejoin the Kentucky team in the fall and will look to build upon his impressive summer for the Blue and White.
