Lexington, Ky. – The Kentucky football team will have its first extended preseason scrimmage on Saturday.
“This (scrimmage) is totally about evaluating where we are at each position, who is ready to play, who needs some more work, that type of thing,” Coach Rich Brooks said following Friday’s two-hour workout. “There are a few guys who won’t be able to participate and a few who will participate on a limited scale. We have to narrow it down (after this scrimmage) on who we’re going to work with getting ready for Louisville. In the following scrimmage we’ll be going against some stuff that we think that Louisville might be doing on both sides of the ball.”
Brooks also talked about the contrast of trying to evaluate a team’s offense vs. its own defense in practice.
“The offense has done some good things but is not consistent,” Brooks said. “It needs to be more consistent. That’s something we have to work toward. The defense has done a lot of good things, but I’m not sure whether that’s because the defense is really good or the offense is quite a ways behind. We really won’t know the answer to that question until we play some different people.”
