Click for full-size image OMAHA, Neb.?Three University of Kentucky swimmers competed in the United States Olympic Trials Wednesday, with former swimmer Will Vietti leading the way with a 26th place finish in the 200-meter breaststroke.

Vietti placed 26th overall after clocking in a time of 2:17.52 in the event, for his second top-30 finish at the 2008 Olympic Trials. Vietti notched a top-16 finish on the first night of competition with a 16th place in the 100-breast after scoring a personal best time in the preliminary rounds. Today?s event wraps up action for the UK record holder in both breaststroke events for the Trials.

Brendan Hansen topped the field in the breaststroke for the second time during the Trials after the preliminary heats. Hansen finished in a time of 2:11.29 in the 200-breast today.

Rising sophomore Tyler Reed and rising junior Eric McGinnis were the other Wildcats in action this morning as they both took part in the 100-meter freestyle. Reed earned 57th place overall and touched the wall in a time of 50.65, just shades off of his qualifying time of 50.71. The Kentucky native has enjoyed an impressive start to his promising career. He was named to the All-SEC Freshman team after placing fifth in the 200-yard free at the SEC meet. Reed was the lone individual scorer for the Blue and White at the NCAA Championships in just his first season with the team.

McGinnis scored a tie for 82nd with a time of 51.33 in the event. He too, was just a bit off his top time in the event which was 51.22. The rising junior will also take part in the 50-meter freestyle later in the week.

Garrett Weber-Gale edged out Michael Phelps for the top finish in the morning. Weber-Gale turned in a 47.78 performance, with Phelps coming in at 47.92.

Rising senior Shane Eliason will take to the pool tomorrow in the 200-meter backstroke as the lone Wildcat competitor Thursday at the Olympic Trials.
