Birmingham, Ala. ? Kentucky senior softball player was one of 11 student athletes named to the 2008 Southeastern Conference Softball Community Service Team as announced by the league offices Thursday.

The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 20 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to her community in superior service efforts.

Dimkich volunteered her time in various community service acts including in the Cats Cultivating Character, and for the Big Blue U. She also worked the UK Athletes Canned Food Drive and God?s Pantry Food Drive.

The San Marino, Calif., native was the Kentucky nominee for the esteemed McWhorter Award earlier this spring. She was also inducted into the Frank G. Ham society of character, one of the highest honors any Kentucky athlete can earn. The team captain, Dimkich is a three-time All-SEC Academic team selection and won the 2008 CATSPY award for supporting role.

This is the first such honor for Dimkich in her career. This weekend the four-year letterwinner will wrap up her collegiate career when she and the Cats travel to Auburn for a three-game set. First pitch Saturday is slated for 1 p.m. CT.
