LEXINGTON, Ky. ? To finish out the regular season, the No. 22 Wildcats (14-8 overall, 5-6 SEC) head to Auburn, Ala. to participate in the 2008 SEC Tennis Championships. The tournament is hosted by Auburn and will take place Thursday April 17 through Sunday April 20. Kentucky is seeded at the No. 7 position and is set to play No. 52 Ole Miss (7-14, 3-8) at 10 a.m. CT in the first round on Thursday.

UK last played the Rebels at the end of March in Oxford, Miss. where the Cats fell to Ole Miss, 5-2. Kentucky looks to make up for the previous loss and continue to the second round by defeating the Rebels. Ole Miss most recently defeated Mississippi State in a 5-2 contest for its 19th straight win against the Bulldogs. Despite the season loss to the Rebels, the Cats still hold the advantage over Ole Miss with an all-time record of 17-15. Kentucky also boasts a stronger conference season record with seven more wins.

Most recently Kentucky played No. 12 Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn. The Cats swept the Commodores in doubles but only won court six in singles. Freshman Lauren Meier provided the second point for UK, winning 6-3, 6-1 against Caroline Ferrell. Vandy came back from the two-point deficit to take a 5-2 victory over Kentucky.

At the 2007 SEC Championship the Wildcats defeated Mississippi State in the first round, 4-0. The Cats? trip was cut short due to a loss in their next contest with Vanderbilt, falling 4-2. In 2005 and 2006 Kentucky was the SEC Tournament runner-up, with Florida taking the championship title both times. UK has made it into at least the second round of the SEC tournament since 2002 and into the third round three times since 2004.
