STARKVILLE, Miss. ? After playing a doubleheader Tuesday, Kentucky returns to action Thursday afternoon for another two game set, this time against Mississippi State in Starkville. First pitch of game one is slated for 4 p.m. Central Time and 5 p.m. Eastern Time.

The Wildcats dropped a doubleheader to Indiana Tuesday night at the UK Softball Complex. In the second game of the twin bill, the two teams combined to score 29 runs. The 29 runs set a program record for combined runs in a game. Sophomores Molly Johnson and Natalie Smith combined to go 13-for-15 on the day. Johnson belted four doubles and a home run, while brining in seven runs. Smith crossed the plate four times.

Sophomore right-hander Jennifer Young threw all 15 innings for the Wildcats. She set a career-high with the eight innings pitched in the second contest.

Mississippi State enters the game ranked 23rd in the latest ESPN College Softball poll. The Lady Bulldogs have been among the nation?s top teams this season holding an impressive 30-11 overall record. They are 4-7 in conference play and sit in fourth place in the Western Division.

Kentucky and Mississippi State have met 29 times in the series history with the Bulldogs holding a 21-8 advantage over the Blue and White. Last season, Mississippi State scored a series sweep in Lexington. The two teams have played nine games in which the win was decided by just one run. Kentucky has taken three series from the Bulldogs in school history including back-to-back seasons in 1998, 1999. Mississippi State has won nine straight.
