LEXINGTON, Ky. ? Freshman Andrea Mitchell (Knoxville, Tenn.) was named to the Freshman All-SEC Team the league office announced Monday. Also receiving honors from the SEC was senior Crissy Cannon (Lenoir City, Tenn.) who was named to the SEC Good Works Team.

Mitchell is the first Wildcat gymnast in school history to receive this honor. The freshman out of Tennessee competed in all 13 regular season meets, as well as the SEC Gymnastics Championships this past weekend. In her rookie season, Mitchell earned two event titles, one on the uneven bars against Centenary with a career high score of 9.875, and an all-around title at Ohio State with another career high tally of 39.150.

She is the only freshman who has participated in the all-around and also leads the freshmen with the highest scores on the vault (9.825) and uneven bars (9.875). Mitchell?s high mark on the uneven bars places her at the number one position on the team for that event.

Also receiving SEC honors was Cannon who was named to the SEC Good Works Team. The team is made up of seven SEC gymnasts, one from each competing school. The honor spotlights each athlete who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.

Cannon has been continually active in her service endeavors. Not only does she help out the local community, she extends her service abroad. Cannon has traveled to Africa each year since 2006, working in orphanages and participating in village outreach programs as well as leading small mission teams.

?Being involved in the community has allowed me to grow as an individual and to refocus on life in many ways,? Cannon stated. ?I personally have been amazed at how much my life has been impacted by working with people who are oftentimes less fortunate. They are always so optimistic about life, and it has taught me to see past obstacles and look into how obstacles can make us grow.?

This is the fifth year the conference has named a Good Works Team and the inaugural year for the Freshman All-SEC Team. Also named to the freshman team were Kayla Hoffman (Alabama), Hilary Mauro (Georgia), and Cassidy McComb (Georgia).

The No. 20 Kentucky Wildcats will next compete at the Central Regional competition held at LSU in Baton Rouge, La. The meet is scheduled for Saturday April 12 with the time TBA. For complete coverage of Wildcat gymnastics, please visit www.ukathletics.com.
