ATHENS, Ga. ? The University of Kentucky women?s golf team knocked off 14 shots from their team score in the second round of the 36th annual Liz Murphey Collegiate and remain in 18th place after two days of action.

Freshman Paige Lausier was the most improved UK player as she improved by 10 strokes in today?s round, shooting an 81 in the second round. Senior Beth Felts carded the lowest round of the day for the Blue and White, as she improved by eight strokes with a second-round 80 today. Felts sits in a tie for 86th with sophomore Kristin Vincent who fired an 82 in today?s round. Junior Mallory Blackwelder sits in a tie for 78th through 36 holes to lead all UK players. Blackwelder carded an 82 Saturday. Rounding out the scoring was senior Elizabeth Dotson who is tied with teammate Lausier for 91st having shot an 88 in the second round of play.

Kentucky carded a 325 score in today?s round, 14 shots shaved off of their opening round 339. The Wildcats are in 18th place through two days of action. Georgia is on top of the team leaderboard with Purdue just four shots back.

Tee times begin at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. Top-ranked Duke headlines this year’s field, which includes 12 of the top-25 teams in the latest edition of the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. Following the Blue Devils are No. 6 Purdue, No. 10 Auburn, No. 11 Wake Forest, No. 12 Arkansas, No. 13 Georgia, No. 14 Alabama, No. 16 Tennessee, No. 18 Kent State, No. 20 LSU, No. 22 Texas A&M and No. 25 Vanderbilt. Rounding out the competition are Florida State, Furman, Kentucky, South Carolina, UCF and Virginia.

The Classic began humbly in 1973 as the Georgia Invitational before becoming the Women?s Southern Intercollegiate Championships from 1977-94. In 1995, the tournament was renamed in honor of Liz Murphey, UGA?s Hall of Fame golf coach and long-time Senior Woman Administrator.
