BOWLING GREEN, Ohio ? The No. 19 Kentucky Wildcat gymnastics team (9-7 overall, 1-5 SEC) defeated the Bowling Green State Falcons (7-4, 3-3 MAC) Saturday afternoon at the Anderson Arena in Ohio, 195.400-191.375. UK?s victory was the team?s eighth consecutive win and marked the end of the regular season for the Cats.
The Wildcats? score was their third highest on the season. UK took all clean scores, without counting any faults or falls. Kentucky also dominated every event, placing Cats in the top four spots on vault, bars, and floor, and the stop six on beam. The all-around performers, sophomores Emilie Rymer, Hillary Ferguson, and Emily Green all took the first, second, and third positions in the all-around, respectively.
The Cats began the day on the uneven bars. Sophomore Rymer led Kentucky on the event with a solid 9.800, bringing in her second career bars title. Following her performance was senior Crissy Cannon sticking a 9.775.
In one of the team?s best events of the night, Green and Ferguson tied for the vault title for the second week in a row with scores of 9.850. The top honor is Green?s eighth season and career title for vault. She is also ranked nationally at the No. 15 position for the event and has won the title in the past four meets. Sophomore Jamie Reimann earned a career high with a 9.625.
Kentucky is currently ranked No. 10 on the floor and the talent showed. With a team total of 49.000, extending the lead to three points, the Cats again claimed the top four positions. Ferguson won her seventh career floor title with a 9.875. She was followed by junior Heather Hite (9.850) and freshman Madison Snowden (9.825).
Closing out the evening was Kentucky?s best event of the evening. On balance beam, UK earned the top score of the event with a 49.100. Leading the Cats were Hite and Green with scores of 9.875. Hite has continued to impress on beam, earning her 11th career beam title. Green?s beam honor was her first of the season and second in her career. Rymer earned top marks again with the next highest tally of 9.825.
With such dynamic performances, the Cats took the top three all-around positions. Ahead of the pack was Rymer, posting a 39.225. The honor is the Ohio native?s fourth season title in the all-around category. Ferguson and Green followed close behind with 39.150 and 39.050, respectively. Kentucky has taken three or more titles in eight meets this season, five meets which have been in the past two weeks.
