COLUMBUS, Ohio ? First year NCAA participant sophomore Megan Pulskamp registered a career-best time in the 100-butterfly at the 2008 NCAA Championships Friday.
Pulskamp was one of five UK athletes in individual competition today. The sophomore clocked in a personal-best time of 54.23 in today?s preliminary heat of the 100-fly. Pulskamp placed 42nd overall in the event, her first individual event of the meet on the national stage.
Jenny Bradford scored the highest individual finish of the day for the Blue and White as she notched a 19th place finish in the 100-fly with a time of 53.40. Heather Bradford scored 21st in the same event in a time of 53.46. The Bradfords and Pulskamp will return to the water tomorrow. Heather and Jenny Bradford will be among the field in the 100-free, with Pulskamp in the hunt in the 200-fly.
Senior Lindsay Myhre placed 44th overall in the 100-breast. It was the second consecutive season Myhre competed in the 100-breast at the NCAA Championships. She tapped in a time of 1:04.48 in today?s preliminary heat. Myhre will also be among the field in the 200-breast tomorrow.
Senior Kari Retrum placed 28th overall on the three-meter board with a score of 269.75. Just a day after notching her first career All-America distinction Retrum had another fine performance on the three-meter. Retrum will return to the boards in the platform event tomorrow.
Kentucky?s 200-medley relay took 18th overall in the today?s prelim heat. Senior Jill Southerlan took the backstroke leg in a time of 26.20. Myhre swam the breaststroke leg finishing in a time of 28.80. Heather Bradford took the butterfly leg and scored a time of 23.70. Jenny Bradford touched the wall in 21.66 on the freestyle leg.
UK returns to action tomorrow in the NCAA Championships for the final day of competition in the 2008 season. Kentucky has participants in the 100-free, 200-fly, 200-breast, platform diving and the 400-free relay.
