LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The No. 22 Kentucky women?s tennis team (9-2 overall, 0-0 conf.) defended their home courts against the No. 30 South Florida Sunday morning at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex, running the Bulls to a 6-1 loss. Kentucky remains perfect when playing in Lexington.
The Wildcats started the day by sweeping doubles for the second day in a row. UK is undefeated when winning the doubles point.
UK clinched the match against the Bulls by taking points at the No. 2, 3, and 4 singles positions. SEC Freshman of the week No. 95 Megan Broderick won the first set of singles for the Cats at No. 2. Broderick beat out South Florida?s Jessica Zok, 6-2, 7-6(4). Freshman Alaina Trgovich sealed the fourth point at the No. 4 position against USF?s Iciri Rai, 6-2, 7-5. At No. 3 singles, junior Carolina Escamilla handed South Florida?s Liz Cruz a 6-2, 6-4, decision.
Kentucky will go on the road next week to face their first SEC opponents of the season. The Wildcats will begin conference play Friday Feb. 29 in South Carolina against the No. 31 Gamecocks. The Cats then head to Gainesville, Fla. for a match-up with the Florida Gators on Sunday March 2.
