LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The Kentucky women?s tennis team (4-1 overall, 0-0 SEC) will return to home courts at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex Saturday, Feb. 9 for the second double-header of the season. The Wildcats will face Middle Tennessee State at 11 a.m. and East Tennessee State at 5 p.m.
The No. 28 ranked Wildcats will face two teams against which they are undefeated. UK women?s tennis holds a 3-0 all-time record over East Tennessee State, as well as a 10-0 record against Middle Tennessee. The 10-0 record is the third best in UK women?s tennis, just falling short of the second best 11-0 record against Eastern Kentucky. The 15-0 record against Louisville is the longest all-time undefeated streak for UK women’s tennis.
Kentucky?s most recent run-in with Middle Tennessee was 2004 when they defeated the Blue Raiders 5-2 and last faced East Tennessee in 2007, cleaning up 7-0.
Last weeks matches included home play against in-state rival Louisville and a road match at Indiana University. The Wildcats beat out the Cards 4-3 but faced a 4-3 loss to No. 26 Indiana in Bloomington. The loss was the team?s first of the season as well as the first match on the road.
The Cats had hoped to reverse the score against IU after losing the doubles point, but only managed to win three points during singles. Sophomore Christine Johnston and freshman Alaina Trgovich remain undefeated in singles despite the loss to the Hoosiers.
The first match against MTSU is set to start at 11 a.m. and the second match with ETSU is scheduled for 5 p.m. Admission is free. Live stats will be available at www.ukathletics.com.
