LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The No. 34 University of Kentucky women?s tennis team looks to extend their two-match winning streak Sunday when they host No. 23 Michigan at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex.
UK is coming off an undefeated weekend at home in a dual match against Winthrop and No. 65 Marshall. The Wildcats posted an impressive 6-1 victory against Marshall before dropping Winthrop, 7-0, in the second match.
Sarah Woestmann, who ranks No. 69 in singles, had a remarkable day going, 3-0 in singles and doubles play on the day. Woestmann won her first match against Marshall?s Karolina Soor 7-6, 6-0. She also excelled in doubles, combining with Megan Broderick, to post a pair of 8-1 victories over both Winthrop and Marshall.
The Wildcats? 20th ranked doubles team of Carolina Escamilla and Christine Johnston notched a win over Winthrop?s Patricia Coimbra and Elizaveta Zaysteva. Escamilla won both her singles matches, dropping only six games along the way. Johnston was also undefeated in singles.
The Wildcats are 7-1 all-time against Michigan, including a 5-2 win in their last meeting in the 2005 season.
Originally scheduled for noon, the time of the match has been changed to 9:00 a.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
