UNIVERSITY PARK, Penn. — Andrew Roland and Ray Geyer posted match-high scores, to lead the Kentucky rifle team to a win over Penn State and N.C. State, over the weekend in University Park, Penn.
?The team held together solid this weekend,? Mullins said. ?I was very pleased with the consistency we had throughout the weekend. With only a week back into training and shooting with different time frames, I felt like we did okay. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but I think that this match really showed us that we can bounce back and start shooting better team numbers then we did against TCU.?
Roland finished with a match-best 580 smallbore total and Geyer totaled a 587 air rifle score to lead the visiting Wildcats in their first match since the end of the fall semester. UK finished the fall semester with its first loss in 366 days, falling to TCU on Nov. 17. Also leading the charge for the Wildcats was Tom Csenge (583 air rifle) and Jen Pason (583 air rifle).
UK outscored Penn State 4635-4373 and topped N.C. State 4636-4454. UK?s Blue squad also beat both teams, finishing with a 4572 total score.
?Leslie had a perfect 200 in prone and Ray was the high air rifle score,? Mullins said. ?I think that we are back on the right tract. We now have two weeks to get ready for Memphis and Army, so hard work will be very important. Army is ranked No. 1 in the nation right now, so we need to bring out A game.?
Kentucky faces Army in Oxford, Miss., on Sunday, January 27.
