Kentucky (1-1) returns home after a hard-fought battle at No. 14/12 George Washington on Wednesday. Despite a game-high 17 points from senior Samantha Mahoney and 13 points from center Sarah Elliott, UK could not overcome the dominating play of GW?s center Jessica Adair. She scored a career-high 29 points while Antelia Parrish added 24 points and 16 rebounds for the Colonials.

?I think playing a solid team like George Washington so early in the season was good for us,? UK Hoops Matthew Mitchell said. ?We know what areas need improving and we have been working hard in practice to fine-tune those weaknesses. Florida Atlantic will also be a good test for us and we are excited about returning home to play in front of our great fan base.?

Mahoney leads three Wildcats in double-figure scoring this season. After a 17-point performance against GW, Mahoney?s scoring average moved up to 12.5 ppg. Senior center Sarah Elliott and freshman guard Carly Morrow follow with 11.5 and 10.0 ppg, respectively. Elliott is the team?s leading rebounder with 6.5 boards per game.

The Owls, in their second season as members of the Sun Belt Conference, are 1-1 on the season after defeating Palm Beach Atlantic on Thursday and falling to Miami in their season opener, 64-45. Freshman Jamie Givens, the daughter of former Kentucky standout and 1978 M.O.P. Jack ?Goose? Givens, is the team?s leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 14.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. She is coming off her first career double-double in her last game, posting a 20-point/12 rebound effort vs. Palm Beach Atlantic.

This is the second all-time meeting between Kentucky and Florida Atlantic. UK is 1-0 after defeating the Owls, 112-71 on Dec. 30, 2000. UK is 27-15 all-time vs. teams from the Sun Belt Conference. FAU is the first of three opponents UKwill face from the Sun Belt this season. The Wildcats will play host to Western Kentucky in Rupp Arena in their next home game on Nov. 30 and travel to South Alabama on Dec. 30.
