LEXINGTON, Ky.? The University of Kentucky men?s swimming and diving team will host their first home meet of the season when they welcome Southeastern Conference foe Florida to the confines of the Lancaster Aquatic Center Thursday.
Kentucky is coming off an impressive win over in-state rival Louisville Saturday. The Blue and White rode the shoulders of sophomore Eric McGinnis, junior Shane Eliason and senior Will Vietti on their way to a 188-112 score. McGinnis was in on three new Ralph Wright Natatorium pool records, while Eliason captured three individual wins and Vietti dominated the breaststroke events.
McGinnis set the pool record in the 50-freestyle with a mark of 20.49, and then anchored both of the record-setting relays.
Eliason was in on the record setting 200-medley relay swimming the backstroke leg before winning events in the 100-back, 200-back and the 200-individual medley. Vietti captured wins in the 100- and 200-breast for his fourth and fifth wins on the season.
In the meet against Louisville, freshman Stephen Andrews and junior Justin Smith each captured wins in the diving events. Smith took his first win of the young season on the one-meter, while Andrews took the three-meter.
Florida is riding an emotional win over No. 5 ranked Georgia a week ago. The Gators won five events on their way to a 132-111 win, showing off the depth of their squad.
The two teams have not meet in dual meet action since Jan. 2004 in Gainesville. The Gators took the meet with a 133-96 score.
