LEXINGTON, Ky. ? Coming off a strong showing at the June Stewart Invitational two weeks ago, the Kentucky women?s tennis team travels to Auburn, Ala., on Thursday to compete in the Southeastern Conference Coaches? Classic. The four-day event, hosted by Auburn University, will take place at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
The tournament, which consists of four singles flights and two doubles flights, begins at 5 p.m. EDT on Thursday afternoon.
The event, which provides a fall showcase for SEC women?s tennis, features nine of the top 75 teams in the nation, according to the May 25 Fila/ITA ratings. Four of those squads finished last season ranked in the top 30 nationally.
The Wildcats have been led by dynamic doubles play in the 2007 fall campaign. The duo of junior Jessica Giuggioli (Turin, Italy) and freshman Alaina Trgovich (Munster, Ind.) went undefeated at the June Stewart Invitational by winning four consecutive matches, while junior Carolina Escamilla (Medellin, Columbia) and sophomore Christine Johnston (Columbus, Ohio) compiled a 4-1 record two weeks ago.
