WINDERMERE, Fla. ? The Kentucky men?s golf team wrapped up the fall season today with a 12th place finish at the Isleworth-UCF Intercollegiate in Windermere, Fla. The Wildcats carded a third-round score of 298 to finish the tournament with a total of 886 (297-291-298). No. 5 Georgia took home the team title with a 23-under par total of 841 (291-275-275).
Clemson finished in second place, 21 strokes behind the Bulldogs, with a score of 862 (287-290-285). Southern Cal was third at 863 (284-287-292), while Oklahoma State and Wake Forest rounded out the top five with scores of 866 (284-289-293) and 868 (285-284-298), respectively.
Georgia?s Harris English captured the medalist honors after shooting an 11-under par 205 (72-67-66) for the three-day event.
Junior Andy Winings once again led the Wildcats and earned his fourth top-15 finish of the fall, tying for 13th in the individual standings. Winings fired a third-round 76 to finish at 215 (72-67-76) for the tournament. Senior Cale Barr finished among the top 25 for the second time this fall. The Versailles, Ky., native tied for 23rd with a three-day total of 218 (69-72-77).
Sophomore Derek Oldham turned in the best round of the day by a Kentucky player with a career-low 69 in the final round. Oldham had five birdies on the day, including three on the back nine, as he finished 33rd overall for his best career finish. Oldham finished with a three-day total of 221 (76-76-69). Junior Ben Fuqua and sophomore Jordan Blann round out the scoring for the Cats with scores of 235 (80-76-79) and 239 (80-83-76), respectively.
?This was an outstanding field and we played our hearts out,? said UK head coach Brian Craig. ?Andy and Cale played great the first two rounds and Derek played a terrific final round. We have a long way to go, but this team has a chance to be competitive for the spring season if we can get a couple more guys to play even close to their capabilities.?
The Wildcats return to action in the spring when they travel to the Rio Pinar Invitational, Feb. 25-26, in Orlando, Fla.
