IRVING, Texas — Kentucky sophomore goalkeeper Dan Williams has been named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday morning.

Williams anchored the Wildcats between the pipes in its upset conference-opening win over UAB. The Fairfax Station, Va., native posted a crucial save while posting his second clean sheet of the season and the seventh of his young career. Williams faced four Blazer shots, while helping UK to its first two-game winning streak of the season. UAB entered the game averaging 1.56 goals per game. A member of the 2006 C-USA All-Freshmen team, Williams has played every minute of UK?s first 10 games, facing 100 shots and saving 38.

An anchor for a young Wildcat defense, Williams posted the fifth best goals against average (0.86) in school history a year ago, en route to third-team All-Conference honors.

The honor marks UK?s first C-USA weekly honor of the season and the second career weekly conference honor for Williams. The 6-foot-2 keeper earned the accolade after posting a clean sheet in UK?s upset win over No. 6 South Carolina last season.

Kentucky (3-5-2, 1-0 C-USA) returns to C-USA action on Wednesday as it plays host to No. 14 Tulsa at 7 p.m. ET at the UK Soccer Complex.
