Women's Golf

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.?The #33 University of Kentucky women?s golf team concluded the Lady Tar Heel Invitational in 17th place after shooting a third-round total of 314.

?We were obviously disappointed by how we finished today,? said Coach Myra Blackwelder. ?I thought we were a little flat this week, and part of that has to do with fatigue and such a short turn-around.?

Kentucky played six rounds of golf in just nine days. They will now have a two week break before they return to the links in Alabama.

In a field that featured 15 of the country?s top-50 teams, #2 Duke took home the team tournament with a three-round total of a 13-over-par score (877). The Blue Devils? Amanda Blumenherst earned individual honors with a three-day total of seven-under-par (209). Just four players shot scores of under-par for the tournament.

Junior Mallory Blackwelder was the top leading scorer for Kentucky, as she placed in a tie for 44th with a third-round score of 76. Blackwelder has shot nine consecutive rounds of scores at least 78 and below.

Freshman Louise Ljungstedt capped off her third tournament of her career with a tie for 66th. Sophomore Erica Still shared the 66th place tie with her teammate, after firing a 78 in the third round.

Rounding out the scoring for the Wildcats were freshman Paige Lausier and senior Elizabeth Dotson who finished in a tie for 71st and 81st.

The Lady Wildcats return to action Oct. 26, in the University of Alabama-Ann Rhodes Intercollegiate.
