LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The University of Kentucky men?s tennis team opens its schedule by participating in both the Southern Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Georgia, and the Baylor University Invitational this weekend.

The Wildcats open the season with two players ranked in the pre-season top 100 singles. Junior Bruno Agostinelli begins the season at No. 44, while senior Will Ward holds the No. 90 spot. The two are also ranked as a doubles tandem occupying the No. 41 slot in the doubles poll. Both Cats will play in the Southern Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Georgia. Newcomer Brad Cox will join the upperclassmen on their road trip to Athens, Ga., September 21-24.

Georgia?s Southern Intercollegiate is the South?s oldest recurring tournament, originating in 1968. The tournament is comprised of three singles divisions and two doubles divisions. The top two singles divisions play a 64-man draw, while the third division features a 60-man bracket.

UK men?s tennis head coach Dennis Emery is also sending a trio of players to Waco, Texas, this weekend. Senior Marcus Sundh, sophomore Jorge Jorge and freshman Alberto Gonzalez will start their season at the H.E.B. Baylor University Invitational, September 21-23.

Players from 20 other schools will join the Wildcats at the Baylor Tennis Center. Over 120 athletes will participate in the brackets, including 25 players listed in the pre-season rankings. The tourney features two 64-player singles draws while the doubles draw is split into groups of 32 and 16, respectively.

With tournament action beginning this weekend, Emery announces his 2007-08 schedule. This autumn, the Wildcats hit the courts in 11 tournaments culminating at the SEC Indoors in January. The Cats? arduous spring schedule features matches against 19 teams listed in the final team rankings last season, including match-ups against each of the top seven teams from a year ago.

UK will host two tournaments at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex next month during its fall slate. The Fluitt Invitational takes place Oct. 13-15, followed the next week by the ITA Southeast Indoors Oct. 19-22.
