ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The Kentucky men’s soccer team got outshot 17-4 in the opening round of the University of Michigan Invitational and dropped a tough 4-0 decision to No. 18 Michigan, on Friday night at the U-M Soccer Complex.
Kentucky (1-3-1) dropped its second consecutive game while playing with some extreme injury issues, missing five starters from its 2006 14-win team. Kentucky, which totaled just one corner kick to the Wolverines eight, allowed goals to Mauro Fuzetti, Jake Stacy, and Michael Holody. Michigan (5-0) entered the contest as one of the hottest teams in the nation, outshooting the Wildcats by 13 shots, including a staggering 13 in the first half.
Fuzetti got the Wolverines on the board first, netting a goal in the 39th minute, taking a pass from Steve Bonnell and heading the ball into the net for first goal of the match. Stacy followed in the 44th minute, heading the ball from Jeffery Quijano from 10 yards out, into the upper left post. UM got its final goal of the contest from Michael Holody on a Stacy assist, putting the game away for good for the host Wolverines.
Kentucky returns to action on Sunday with a Noon matchup with Michigan State at the UM Soccer Complex.
