Scroll down for a list of cable/satellite providers that have committed to carrying the pay-per-view broadcast
This football season, UK and Big Blue Sports are utilizing live pay-per-view broadcasts in addition to the traditional delayed broadcast.
Here are some facts about the decision to provide live pay-per-view football broadcasts.
According to league TV policy, SEC games not selected for broadcast by CBS, ESPN and Lincoln Financial can ONLY be televised live via pay-per-view. Twice per year, a school is allowed to provide a ?point-to-point? broadcast, which may only be seen live over-the-air in the TV market of the participating teams (i.e. Lexington). UK used point-to-point for the EKU game, and will use it again for the Louisville game. ALL OTHER UK GAMES NOT BROADCAST BY CBS, ESPN OR LINCOLN FINANCIAL CAN ONLY BE SEEN LIVE VIA PAY-PER-VIEW.
Pay-per-view games can only be offered to cable and satellite systems in the state of the participating team. Thus, in the state of Kentucky, fans should contact their cable/satellite provider to order the pay-per-view telecast. Outside of Kentucky, the telecast is available on the ESPN GamePlan package.
Pay-per-view is a standard live TV alternative across the SEC. Examples of early-season league games that have been offered to respective fan bases via PPV include Alabama-Western Carolina, Florida-Troy and Tennessee-Southern Miss.
UK expects many of its SEC games to be televised by CBS, ESPN or LF this season. Those decisions are usually made 12 days prior to each game (and sometimes only six days prior).
Why can?t the game just be shown live on broadcast TV?
According to league TV policy, SEC games not selected for broadcast by CBS, ESPN and Lincoln Financial can ONLY be televised live via pay-per-view.
Why, then, was last week?s game live on WKYT?
Twice per year, a school is allowed to provide a ?point-to-point? broadcast, which may only be seen live over-the-air in the TV market of the participating teams (i.e. Lexington). UK used point-to-point for the EKU game, and will use it again for the Louisville game. ALL OTHER UK GAMES NOT BROADCAST BY CBS, ESPN OR LINCOLN FINANCIAL CAN ONLY BE SEEN LIVE VIA PAY-PER-VIEW.
Why are UK?s games blacked out on ESPN GamePlan in the state of Kentucky?
Per the SEC TV contract with ESPN, all live pay-per-view broadcasts have to be offered to GamePlan for national distribution. However, since there is an increased cost associated with providing a live broadcast versus a delayed broadcast, blacking out the game within the state allows the Big Blue Sports Network an opportunity to recoup its production costs.
GamePlan customers outside of Kentucky will get the UK-Kent State telecast.
How can fans order the UK-Kent State game on pay-per-view?
Fans should call their cable or satellite provider to order the telecast. All cable systems in the state of Kentucky have been offered the pay-per-view telecast. Fans should ask cable systems not offering the game on pay-per-view to contact Big Blue Sports/Host Communications.
